Slovenia/Croatia
Authors
Robin Hemley | Josip Novakovich | Russell Valentino | Xu Xi |
How many "formers” must one peel away before finding the real thing, the
living heart of these two rich and diverse territories of Central Europe?
Formerly Illyrian, Roman, Venetian, French, Austrian, Hungarian, Italian,
German, and Yugoslav, today Slovenia and Croatia are countries in their own
right, one in "Europe,” the other just outside it. We’ll step across, why not,
into “the Balkans,” some might say, though that too may be an idea we’re ready
to leave behind. All while ruminating with the region’s writers on such weighty
themes, we’ll sip Slovene wine amid the pristine beauty of Lake Bled, sample a
smoky Zagreb café or two, take in a concert in the opera house dedicated by the
Emperor Franz Joseph in 1895, and wander the old streets of Ljubljana for no
reason at all.
Program: $1350.00
Ground: $0.00
Manuscript Consultation: $400.00
